Yikes, Sony’s new subscription doubles the price of streaming PlayStation games on PC

Image
The new PlayStation Plus is a terrible deal for PC players. Sony has announced its long-expected overhaul of  PlayStation  subscription services, a move that was somewhat forced on the Japanese giant by the gathering momentum of Microsoft’s Game Pass. The latter seems to get more impressive by the week, offers tremendous value-for-money, and has the simple headline pitch of “every first party exclusive on day one.” PlayStation’s alternatives, PlayStation+ and PSNow, are decent ways to access the PlayStation back catalogue, but next to Game Pass, increasingly felt irrelevant. Sony’s answer? The new PlayStation Plus was announced in the most underwhelming manner possible, a dry-as-dust blogpost that outlined three different tiers of service: Essential, Extra, and Premium. PlayStation Plus re-launches with these new tiers in June. When it replaces the existing PS Now streaming service, Premium (the most expensive tier) will be the only one that lets you play PlayStation ga...

Amazon Games says it 'made a mistake' with Lost Ark's March update

Image
Fewer players than expected were ready for the new endgame activity, and some thought it made Lost Ark feel pay-to-win. Not everyone was pleased that the first big update for Lost Ark included as one of its main draws an activity only available to players who had reached the summit of its endgame crawl—a boss fight called an Abyss Raid designed for groups of eight players, against a guardian named Argos. To reach it, you need to be in tier 3 and have an item level of 1,370. Increasing your item level in Lost Ark is done by honing gear, which requires luck as well as regular injections of crafting material. Each step has a slightly higher chance of failing, requiring another dose of crafting material before you can try again. It's a slog. In a new announcement, Amazon Games explained that, "We made a mistake releasing the March game update too quickly after launch. Data we analyzed alongside Smilegate RPG from their previous launches projected that a larger portion of players w...

Hot New Dying Light 2: Stay Human Trailer Showcases Ray Traced Shadows and Reflections

Techland’s open world zombie title will take advantage of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX technology along with DLSS when it launches on February 4th. Along with announcing the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3050, Nvidia showcased several titles running on RTX technology (like The Day Before). Dying Light 2 Stay Human also received a new trailer, showcasing gameplay that highlights the quality of ray traced reflections, shadows and global illumination. Check it out below. Nvidia DLSS is also supported, which should help provide improved performance at 4K. However, Techland has yet to outline the PC hardware needed to run the game at 4K. Even at 1080p/60 FPS, playing with the best quality ray tracing requires an Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3080 with 10 GB VRAM. Dying Light 2 Stay Human is out on February 4th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch so more details on its 4K requirements for PC should be coming soon. Gameplay from the Xb...

January was already looking to be a solid month for Xbox Game Pass, with Mass Effect Legendary Edition coming to the service, but now subscribers can look forward to a brand new title as well. Microsoft and Ubisoft have announced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is coming to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on day one. The Rainbow Six PvE spinoff is coming to Game Pass on January 20, the same day it releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5/PS4, and PC. Pokémon Legends: Arceus Risks Ruining What Made Arceus So Special

Image
Pokémon Legends: Arceus may allow players to catch the Mythical Pokémon in the game, but it could ruin what makes the “Original One” so mysterious. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is bringing a lot of big changes to the long-running monster-catching series, but one of the most exciting prospects is that players might be able to catch Arceus. This popular Mythical Pokémon, known as “The Original One,” is heralded as the possible creator of the entire Pokémon universe. But it’s that kind of importance and intrigue that makes Arceus so popular, and allowing players to catch one in Pokémon Legends could ruin its mystique. Even outside of these video games’ lore, Arceus has remained plenty mysterious through the years. The Pokémon was first planned for Diamond and Pearl in 2007, and despite players learning of its existence, it wasn’t even officially confirmed until 2009, when the film Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life was released. Even after this, Arceus was never catchable in a Pokémon game ...
